Summer on the Wapta

Myself and some friends were lucky enough to spend a gorgeous July weekend on the South end of the Wapta Traverse at Scott Duncan Hut!

Going up to Scott Duncan is not super common in the summer, so the journey involved some route finding, climbing through avalanche debris, and a whole lot of spider webs! We were happy to break into the alpine pretty quickly, away from spider webs but towards a little shoulder dislocation (oops!). Thankfully my shoulder popped back in pretty quickly and we continued on to the glacier, which thanks to a deep snow year and slow spring made for quick and easy travel. We probed 3 meters pretty consistently!

Friday night was gorgeous and we ate dinner while watching the sunset, lighting up the mountains all around us. Unfortunately for me and my husband, the shoulder meant we had to hike out the following day but our friends made it up Mt Balfour - the King of the Wapta.
